The Session:In this performance challenge program, the participants will experiment and perform a piece of Samba de Malandro choreography! Learn the Brazilian history and culture that influences the dance movements, and really immerse yourself in the Malandro character, movements, and musicality. While this is an open-level class, some prior samba experience is recommended. Participants will exhibit their style and performance skills in a new piece of choreography that will both challenge them and enhance their samba training by putting it all on display for a Summer Recital performance in a gorgeous professional theatre for their friends and family to attend on Saturday, May 24th.

The entire performance package includes 6 hours of in-class instruction, and an additional hour of dress rehearsal and an additional open-studio day of practice time to make sure you are feeling your very best before you get on stage. Students may also get other opportunities to perform at various festivals and latin cultural events throughout July and August (TBD). While attendance for all performances is not required, it is always encouraged to take all performance opportunities!

Investment:

Performance fees go towards coordinating your performance, ordering and shipping your costume, extra rehearsal time, and hiring a professional photographer for the performance. Performance participants have the option to RENT or BUY their performance costume.

$150 - 6-weeks of class + instruction (Does not include costume or performance)

$50 - Hat + performance fee

Costumes:

-This session’s costume will be an option of a red blazer + suit pants, or a passsista/blazer bodysuit (bra, bottoms, and half-blazer). Both looks are complete with a red-brimmed hat. 

-Costumes do not need to be purchased right away, but performance participation must be confirmed no later than April 9th

Important Dates:
-Saturday, May 3rd: Open-studio, students may attend and utilize the space to practice their performance numbers with instructor guidance available

-Saturday, May 10th: Mandatory Dress Rehearsal + Show Run-through (in-studio)

-Saturday, May 24th: Show day!
